Standalone OLED Ally Version
Asus officially confirmed that the OLED version of the Ally X20 handheld will also be sold standalone, without the need to purchase AR glasses. The company is currently working on the release schedule.
High-Quality OLED Display
The 7.4-inch OLED panel with 1080p resolution and brightness up to 1400 nits offers excellent readability even in direct sunlight. Anti-reflective glass eliminates glare better than the competition. The display is smaller than the Legion Go 2, but in practice it appears sharper and more vibrant.
More Comfortable Controls
The handheld features rubberized grips that enhance comfort. The new ABXY buttons are quieter and recessed into the body. The transformable D-pad allows switching between 8-way and 4-way modes – in practice, this significantly improves diagonal movement accuracy.
Performance and Comparison with MSI Claw 8 EX
At 25 W setting, the Ally X20 achieves approximately 44 FPS in Cyberpunk 2077, while the MSI Claw 8 EX has 61 FPS. In Returnal, the ratio is 41 vs 62 FPS. Battery life is similar for both (around 2 hours). However, the Ally benefits from a variable refresh rate of 30–120 Hz and quieter cooling. Additionally, the Intel Claw suffers from unstable drivers and occasional stutters.
The OLED Ally X20 will likely be more expensive than the current version at $1000. If you are looking for the best handheld regardless of price, this may be a device worth waiting for.
